BCN USk 1

Some glimpses of the day before the symposium started. Leaving Frankfurt Airport, sketching some planes and a girl who kept wiggling her toes.

Meeting some sketchers at Arc de Triomf and getting started on drawing. Later we moved on to El Raval and and i drew this view of Carrer Elisabets/Carrrer del Àngels- This must have been one of the most drawn motifs for the Urban Sketchers, being both picturesque and close to CCCB..Flaf and Miriam were just around the corner, painting it too.

First round of Drink and Draw; Enno, Miriam and Ira at the next table.

Étang de Hanau

Just across the border is the french region of Lorraine where the mix of german and french identity is most apparent in the names of places, like Lake Hanau.
A pretty lake in the middle of the forest, and a view of crumbling Burg Waldeck. This time the overcrowded campground on the other side of the lake didn´t make it into my sketch.

Im Zug

Ever since smartphones became common, drawing people without being noticed has become a lot easier. On the train everyone is accustomed to stare and being stared at, and looking at their small phone screens waiting for the next message to pop up. The drawn lines are wobbly sometime due to the rattling of the train.

Schröders

Watching pretty much everything except the soccer match Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Mainz 05 that was the purpose of this visit to a local pub. As the match ended in a goalless draw I didn´t miss much. Elk´s looking rather bored too.

bars

Drawing in bars. Meeting friends at Thanners, a local institution in my hometown. It feels like nothing ever changes in that place, but in a good way- same crowd, same owners, same shabby furniture and kitschy decoration as ten years ago.

Recently visited a friend in Munich. The museums i wanted to visit were all closed, so we went  for a drink. Or some.

Sobering up at 4 am by consuming a very tasty Schnitzel.

Schnee immerzu

I´m reposting my first post to Urban sketchers, from last month, with two additional winter sketches.

It´s winter, which means it´s not exactly sketching season in Germany and I haven´t been drawing much. I leave for work when it´s still dark, and when I come home, it´s dark again, and of course, it´s terribly cold outside. So I drew these views from various windows of my appartment.

These are drawn in square sketchbook with grey paper that i hadn´t used before. It´s nice to use a darker paper to play around with negative space- but it seems the only thing i can draw in it are desaturated winter scenes!

It´s March now and you´d think spring might be coming along, but it´s been snowing again.
