Chicken & Cars

A curious mix of subjects in my sketchbook lately.

The chicken were sketched at a poultry fair in Ellershausen. We went just to watch, mainly the day old chicks, but somehow we ended up with a car filled with chirping paper boxes. Apparently two Zwergwyandotten could not be left behind, and neither could some day old chicks.

Then  i sketched some cars at PS Speicher in Einbeck, a newly opened transport museum. It has as great collection of european microcars from the 1950s and 1960s i hadn´t seen before.

end of the year

November sketches on a sunny weekend, the woods in suburb of Mainz and its most important landmark, the Dom as seen from its cloister.

In December, i met up with Birgit to sketch the christmas market, but that failed. Escaped the rain to a café. Then rummaged through Birgits pens and drew the early evening reflections on the cobbles.

After Christmas, Kurze Straße in Göttingen seen from a corner café.

bars

Drawing in bars. Meeting friends at Thanners, a local institution in my hometown. It feels like nothing ever changes in that place, but in a good way- same crowd, same owners, same shabby furniture and kitschy decoration as ten years ago.

Recently visited a friend in Munich. The museums i wanted to visit were all closed, so we went  for a drink. Or some.

Sobering up at 4 am by consuming a very tasty Schnitzel.

Sternkino

The neighbourhood´s cinema next door was demolished this summer. It was a former riding stable that was converted into a cinema in the 1950s. I used to go to sleep with the noisy chatter of people emerging from the movies at night, a very comforting sound.
Now it´s all to quiet.
The new owners of the lot want to build two large and exceedingly ugly appartment buildings. People are hoping that the investors won´t suceed with their plans and have filed a complaint with the board of works, so for now all work on the area is stalled and left in this state.
